Businesses and residents have called for action to address the lack of parking spaces in Witham.

Residents living near The Grove believe their streets have become more clogged since Cofunds moved 600 staff to Mayland House earlier this year.

Cofunds does not have enough parking spaces for all its staff on-site and has encouraged lift sharing and alternative modes of transport for its employees.

In Barwell Way, residents have won their battle to have parking restrictions introduced.

Allan Waight, chairman of the Grove Residents Association, said: “As we anticipated, since they moved in it has got really bad.

“At the moment it is like living in the middle of a giant car park.

“Cofunds do their best, but is a very big problem and we are waiting for some long stay public parking facilities to be made.”

It is hoped the North Essex Parking Partnership will finalise plans for parking restrictions in Barwell Way early next year, which Mr Waight believes will make “a massive difference” for residents.

Cofunds spokesman Stephen Wynne-Jones said: “Since we signalled our intention to relocate to Witham from Chelmsford last year, we've been looking closely at the impact we would have on local residents.

“We were particularly keen to ensure our staff had access to a wide range of travel options to avoid them having to park in the surrounding streets, and this involved working closely with the Council from an early stage."
