Great Leighs Racecourse could reopen in 2015 after details emerged of a new takeover.

Betfred owner Fred Done, along with SIS and Bet Solutions International, have taken on the track.

Under the plans it could be renamed as the Chelmsford City Racecourse and the owners hope it will host fixtures in 2015.

The news comes just a week after the course's founder and former owner John Holmes and his partner Jill Turner were arrested over allegations of involvement in a £2.4 million VAT fraud.

A third man was also arrested.

All three have been released and bailed to report to their local police station on March 5 and 6 next year. They have not been charged and they deny the allegations.
