Essex County Council’s Trading Standards team is asking Essex residents buying dolls for young children this Christmas to be extremely careful after a particular doll caused concern.
An Essex mother from the south of the county contacted the team after she bought two ‘suitcase’ dolls from a market, which fell apart easily revealing chemical granule sachets, small plastic discs and fibrous stuffing inside.
Trading Standards officers have arranged for the dolls and their contents to be tested by experts.
They are also working with one known importer of the dolls located in Essex who is being extremely cooperative and helpful and has agreed to a voluntary product recall to protect consumers.
The team wants to warn Essex shoppers about this type of doll generally and it is advising consumers to be wary of such dolls on sale locally.
