Rail chiefs have apologised for disruption to services caused by last week’s floods and high winds.

A statement published on the Greater Anglia website yesterday said engineers worked as quickly as possible to get trains up and runnings.

The message was signed by both Ruud Haket, managing director at Greater Anglia, and Network Rail’s route managing director Richard Schofield.

High winds caused several trees to fall onto overhead power lines while some coastal lines also flooded, and poor weather meant it was difficult for alternative transport to be provided.

The statement finished: “We recognise the frustration and inconvenience to your journeys caused by the storms and flooding.”
