Halstead: Man admits dangerous driving following Earls Colne horror smash
4:42pm Monday 9th December 2013 in News
A lorry driver had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following a horrific smash that left a toddler seriously injured.
Gendrihs Kuplovs-Oginskis, 44, of Central Avenue, Southend-on-Sea admitted the charge which related to the collision on the B1024 in Earls Colne.
He was driving a bread lorry that collided with a Vauxhall Zafira being driven in the opposite direction.
It was established during the investigation that the lorry was on the wrong side of the road.
The three occupants of the Vauxhall suffered serious injuries; this included a 16-month-old baby girl who received fractures to her skull, leg and wrist. She remained in Addenbrookes Hospital for many weeks and is still recuperating from the trauma of the incident.
Senior Investigating Officer, Inspector Scott Egerton, said: "We are pleased that Kuplous-Oginskis has accepted that his driving on that day was dangerous and caused such hurt to so many people. Everyone, especially professional drivers, need to be alert at all times and aware of other road users. He has had to learn the hard way that a few moments of inattention can have devastating consequences.”
The case was adjourned for sentencing on the week commencing Monday January 13, 2014.
