A listed cottage which was destroyed by a fire is likely to be demolished and replaced.

The remote 16th century cottage in Sculpins Lane, Wethersfield, was completely engulfed in flames when it caught fire on May 8.

Its owner, Gerard Boyd, has applied for permission to demolish the remains of the ruined cottage and build a replacement house.

The application also seeks permission to convert outbuildings at the farm to create three new homes.

Mr Boyd, who was uninjured in the blaze, had bought the property at auction last year and was in the process of renovating the cottage at the time of the fire.
