Braintree: Cottage destroyed by fire is to be rebuilt

Braintree and Witham Times: Braintree: Cottage destroyed by fire is to be rebuilt Braintree: Cottage destroyed by fire is to be rebuilt

A listed cottage which was destroyed by a fire is likely to be demolished and replaced.

The remote 16th century cottage in Sculpins Lane, Wethersfield, was completely engulfed in flames when it caught fire on May 8.

Its owner, Gerard Boyd, has applied for permission to demolish the remains of the ruined cottage and build a replacement house.

The application also seeks permission to convert outbuildings at the farm to create three new homes.

Mr Boyd, who was uninjured in the blaze, had bought the property at auction last year and was in the process of renovating the cottage at the time of the fire.

This news article just doesn't make sense at all.

Is the dwelling to be rebuilt (i.e. as a replica of the original)? or is it to be replaced with a different more modern design?

If only the journalist responsible for writing this story had bothered to put him or herself in the mind of the reader a lot more credit might have been given.

Really must try harder!

In addition (and without meaning to cast unnecessary aspersions) I get a distinct whiff of "jewish lightning".

... with carbolic soap, no doubt. Not happening, Sir!

I talked to my Rabbi and he laughed at my joke telling me to be careful already not to lose the money (for as we all know, that's where the Brits keep their shekels - under the soap).

Do make sure there aren't any dodgy characters lurking around - otherwise it might be more than just your money that you end up loosing!

I think a PSA test would've been a better idea under the circumstances but I am assured nonetheless that I am in good shape, considering my advanced years. Your Auntie Nellie knit lower protection garments, too? Might be in the market for little something in that line.

I would normally have a word with Auntie Nellie on your behalf because that sort of stuff is just up her street, but the poor old soul is a bit stressed up at the moment.

Apparently she took on an order for five dozen armoured codpieces for a forthcoming (still secret) period drama. After all those years at Warners’ she thought she could handle any material but it turns out that she’s having one hell of a job crocheting with Stainless Steel Wire.

I don’t think it would be either wise or safe to ask her right now.
