Two Braintree siblings have raised hundreds of pounds for a charity which helped their dad.

Former Alec Hunter pupils Tom Wicks and sister Jo Jopson have both pushed themselves to the limit to raise cash for Headway Essex, which supports people with brain injuries.

They chose the charity after it had helped their father Alfred John Wicks of Braintree, who suffered a severe brain injury during a bad fall in 2007.

Tom, 38, who runs removals firm Britannia W Harris off Driberg Way, Braintree, ran the Chicago Marathon in four hours 30 minutes.

This was his fourth marathon, having already run in London, Berlin and Amsterdam.

He has so far raised £1,300 and is now in training for marathon number five - the Boston Marathon in April.

Accounts manager Jo, who works with her brother, recently completed her third Mucky Races/Gauntlet race, which saw her running 6km through ditches, swamps and climbing over walls.

Mum-of-two Jo, 44, of John Ray Street, has raised more than £700 in the last year.

The siblings’ mum Christine said: “I’m very proud of them. It’s a real achievement, especially for Joanna because she has a pacemaker.
“Headway is an amazing charity.”
