Braintree's Male Voice Choir has appointed a new Musical Director.

When the choir’s current MD, Elisabeth Miller, announced her retirement in May the choir committee spent the summer holding interviews and auditions.

Stephen Rumsey, who has previously held the position at South Woodham Male Voice Choir in the mid 1980s and at Ipswich Choral Society, has accepted the post.

He said: "It would be good to have a go at finding a direction for BMVC to follow without abandoning its preferred style, and to help the choir follow it, keeping its singing standards as high as possible and attracting new audiences and members along the way."

Mr Rumsey has an extensive range of experience and expertise, including being a guest conductor at the Trianon Music Group and as artistic director of SyrinxMusic a consultancy/performing group, which he hopes to bring to the choir.
