Up to 40 jobs could be created as part of plans to build a care home on a former Dairy Crest site.

Eastern County Care Limited is hoping to a build a care home on the former milk depot at the corner of Coggeshall Road and Marlborough Road.

Dairy Crest closed the site in 2011 and relocated some staff to Tiptree and Bishop Stortford in a bid to reduce running costs.

Eastern County Care has now asked for planning permission to demolition three outbuildings on the site and hopes to put together a further application for the whole site in spring next year.

Partner Jeremy Huband said: “We would hope to have the project finished by the end of 2015.

“It will probably create about 30 to 40 jobs and we would like to employ local people.

“Our care home is based in Southend but we think Braintree is a nice and upcoming area and this site is in a good location.”

The demolition application was received on October 25 and is expected to be decided by November 26.
