Braintree district: Jobs at risk as Cressing Temple plans to reduce opening hours
9:00am Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
Jobs are at risk at a historic medieval visitor attraction after a council announced plans to cut its opening hours.
Essex County Council (ECC) is proposing shutting the visitor centre and tearoom at Cressing Temple on weekdays.
The centre currently employs ten members of staff, both full-time and part-time.
ECC, which needs to find £215million of savings from its budget by 2017, informed staff last week that it was starting a consultation on the future of the site.
The site and its visitor centre are currently open seven days a week from March to October.
But new proposals would see the visitor centre shut on weekdays, apart from during the school holidays, although the grounds would remain open to visitors.
