Braintree: Massive clean up following St Jude storm
8:55am Wednesday 30th October 2013 in News
Braintree and Witham are starting a massive clean up after St Jude storm tore through the district.
The district was hit by the strongest gusts in Essex, uprooting dozens of trees and wrecking buildings.
An elderly man from Great Bardfield is also recovering from burns after he tried to use a camping stove during the power cuts, but ended up setting alight to his kitchen.
Witham Town Council is clearing up after the loss of numerous trees along the River Walk.
Open spaces supervisor Colin Frost said: “It is sad to see the loss of some beautiful trees, some 50 to 60 years old.”
