Witham: Street light petition gains council support
11:00am Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
A Witham mum-of-two says she will campaign for a council tax reduction if her petition to have street lights turned back on is dismissed.
Carol Howe, of Chestnut Walk, collected just over 1,150 signatures from people across Witham and beyond in her campaign to have street lights turned back on.
Miss Howe, 53, who is a carer for her sister, presented her petition at Monday evening’s Witham Town Council meeting and gained cross-party support.
District councillor Bob Evans said councillors had agreed to forward Miss Howe’s petition to Rodney Bass, Essex County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation.
But he added: “Carol says if nothing is done, she is going to get another petition up for a reduction in the council tax."
