Braintree district: National recognition in Keep Britain Tidy Awards
1:00pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in News
Braintree scooped a host of accolades at this year’s Keep Britain Tidy Awards.
Karen Brown, chairman of Braintree East Pride in Our Patch, was announced as a joint Environmentalist Champion of the Year at the Keep Britain Tidy Awards last Tuesday.
Councillor Wendy Schmitt, cabinet member for the environment, was named as the Environmental Elected Member of the Year.
Braintree Council was also named as runner up in the Place Shaper Award for its Flitch Way Stamp Out Poo campaign.
Mrs Brown said: “The award means so much, people don’t volunteer for the awards, they volunteer because they want to make a difference, but when you do receive an award and it recognises the work it is amazing.
“I am accepting on behalf of everybody in Braintree East who helps and works with me, it is not just for me, it is a group effort.”
Mrs Schmitt said: “To win this award is a real privilege, but I think importantly we are really starting to see our district get national recognition for some of the work we are doing, and demonstrates that we are putting the district on the map as an area which recognises the importance of improving and maintaining the environmental landscape.”
