Witham: Crash is a warning, says mum after six-year-old escapes serious injury
3:00pm Thursday 24th October 2013 in News
A mum whose daughter escaped serious injury when a car knocked her to the ground is hoping it will serve as a warning to other drivers.
Tara Martin’s six-year-old daughter Ruby was lucky to escape with just cuts and bruises when a car reversed over her right foot and sent her falling onto her face while she was out playing with friends around the corner from her home in Bramble Road, Witham.
The Powers Hall Infant School pupil was sat on the kerb at the time of the incident at about 2.50pm on Sunday.
She was taken by ambulance to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, but released later that evening after an X-ray showed she had not broken her foot, as initially feared.
Miss Martin does not blame the driver, a neighbour, who she accepts was unsighted and did not realise what had happened until later, but hopes the incident will make others aware of the potential dangers faced when driving in residential areas.
