Witham: Village starts its own street light petition
3:00pm Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in News
A village community is campaigning against a light switch off in their streets.
Essex County Council (ECC) has been turning street lights off across most of Braintree district since the start of September.
By last Monday, 124 Kelvedon residents had signed a petition asking ECC to abandon part night lighting in the village.
The campaign was started by solicitor Louise Buttery, 26, who lives in Trews Gardens.
She said: “It is just terrible. I walked home at quarter to one on Saturday from only a couple of streets away and it is really intimidating."
In Witham, more than 1,000 residents have signed a petition against part night lighting which was started by mum-of-two Carol Howe.
