A music venue has been forced to close its doors as it seeks new owners.

The High Barn, in Braintree Road, Great Bardfield, has cancelled all its scheduled October shows.

The grade two listed barn is one of the village’s oldest surviving buildings.

A statement from the venue said: “It is with great regret and huge sadness that we have to announce the temporary closure of the High Barn.

“The venue is in the process of being sold and due to complications in the sale process we have been unable to insure the venue to hold public performances at this time.

“We are currently going through a lengthy paperwork process which we are unable to speed up.

“We are working hard to resolve this matter and we hope to get back up and running as soon as possible.”

The venue has hosted performances from the likes of Matt Cardle, Ultravox lead singer Midge Ure and Brit Award winner Ed Sheeran.
