Braintree district: Halloween event moves out of area after funding scrapped
9:00am Sunday 20th October 2013 in News
A Halloween event which attracted thousands of visitors has moved to another part of the county after a council withdrew funding.
The Cursed, a collection of mazes and haunted houses, has been funded by Essex County Council (ECC) for the last four years.
The event had been held at Great Notley Country Park in 2009 and 2010, before moving to Cressing Temple due to its popularity.
But, after announcing it wanted to sell the event’s assets, the event will take place this year at Wat Tyler Country Park in Basildon, run by a private company.
An ECC spokesman said: “ECC reviewed the services and events offered by its country parks and the decision was made to cease running the Cursed event.
“The props, costumes, scenery and special effects were sold in September to the highest bidder, who is now operating as BCM Productions, for £3125.66.
“ECC has no further association with the event’s future operations.”
In place of the Cursed, Cressing Temple will be holding a series of Spooky Fun events from October 29 to 31.
