Witham: Young people given vital employment training
3:00pm Monday 14th October 2013 in News
Young people have been given the chance to take part in an apprenticeship scheme.
Following the success of a pre-apprenticeship programme earlier this year, Braintree Council, in partnership with Groundwork Hertfordshire and Greenfields Community Housing, is once again giving five local 16-23 years olds the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification and improve employment prospects.
The Green Team project is a 16-week voluntary employment training scheme aimed at taking on young people who have been in long term unemployment, and are not in education or training (NEET).
Five young people selected through an application and interview process will be working on a series of outdoor projects across the Witham area including maintenance work such as weeding in Spa Road and Cypress Road and paving and turfing in Templars Green Space.
The programme will provide education and training and the participants will earn a National Vocational Qualification in Land Based Studies.
