The death of an overhead linesman who died after falling from a mobile work platform has been ruled an accident.

Wayne Crerar, 50, died on June 14 last year while carrying out routine work at Hunts Hall Farm in Pebmarsh.

The UK Power Networks employee, of Windsor Gardens, Braintree, was declared dead at the scene by ambulance services.

An inquest, held today in Chelmsford, heard Mr Crerar was wearing a harness, but that it was not attached to anchorage points in his cab.

A post-mortem into his death found he had died from head injuries.

Witnesses from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found there were no faults with any of the equipment Mr Crerar had used on the day of the accident.

In a statement issued after the inquest, a spokesman for UK Power Networks said: “Our thoughts remain with Wayne’s family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.

“He was a well-liked and respected colleague with more than 23 years of valued service.”
