Braintree: New street dance class launched for tots
1:00pm Sunday 13th October 2013 in News
Trendy toddlers are swapping nursery rhymes for MC Hammer as they take part in street dance classes.
Mum-of-two Katharine Grant launched the class last month at the Black Notley Community Association in John Ray Gardens.
The 33-year-old of Wood Street, Chelmsford, began the toddler lessons near her home in January this year.
She first began teaching street dancing to teenagers in 2006, while working as a probation officer.
But her children Ezra, 2, and 13-month-old Aria sparked a change in career.
She said: “We start with a warm up using Polly the Parrot.
“We do things like heads, shoulders, knees and toes but in a hip hop style.
“We do a lot of freestyle and Gangnam style, and if the children have a request the mums let me know.”
She uses age appropriate songs, such as Little Mix’s Wings, and the children are encouraged to join in as much they can.
