Chelmsford: UPDATE Hatfield Peverel man in "life-threatening" condition after crash

Police have appealed for witnesses after a man was seriously injured in a road collision at Chelmsford.
Officers were called at 6.33am today after a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at Colchester Road.
The pedestrian, a man in his 30s and from Hatfield Peverel, received head, arm and leg injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital.
His condition this afternoon remained life-threatening.
The road was closed between Boreham services and Sainsbury’s roundabout for about three hours while police collision investigators carried out initial enquiries.
The car driver, a man in his 50s and from Chelmsford, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving.
He remained in custody this afternoon.
