Braintree: Friends Shine together to funraise for charity
5:00pm Wednesday 9th October 2013 in News
A group of friends took part in a night-time half marathon to raise money for Cancer Research.
Braintree friends Gary Stephenson, Noel Gorman, Nikki Bryant and Warren Hood walked 13.1 miles during the Shine for Cancer Research UK event in London on Saturday in memory of their friend Lee Purcell.
The father-of-two, a “great, fun-loving bloke”, passed away from cancer five months ago.
The friends and their supporters met up before the walk in The Orange Tree Pub, Cressing Road, to raise more money and as a tribute to Mr Purcell, who was a regular customer.
Mr Stephenson, 48, of Cressing Road, Braintree, said: “We all met at the Battersea Power Station, it was amazing. We have raised more than £1000 so far.
"Everyone was talking to everyone along the way and there was a great atmosphere but deep down the main thing was the cause everyone had come together to support.
