The brakes have been put on a controversial Braintree cycle path following a residents’ campaign to have work halted.

Construction of the £227,000 Blackwater Nature Reserve footpath and cycleway will be suspended, after Braintree Council received complaints that the path was in the wrong place compared to original plans and the work was also “destroying” the area.

The council has also confirmed that it is aware that the area floods and admitted that the path may be under water “on occasions”.
