Braintree Council needs to slash £1.5million from its budget over the next four years.
The council’s chief executive Nicola Beach has emailed a message to all its employees identifying the challenge of cutting costs.
Ms Beach and council leader Graham Butland will now seek to identify how the savings can be made.
Cabinet member for performance and efficiency David Bebb said: “This is the real challenge we have looming on the horizon.
“We have got a big deficit we need to overcome."
