Witham: Farmer rejects criticisms of quarry proposal
9:00am Sunday 29th September 2013 in News
A farmer has rejected suggestions he has acted prematurely by lodging an initial application for an 85-acre quarry.
Landowner Simon Brice has applied to extract sand and gravel at Colemans Farm, between Little Braxted and Rivenhall End.
Villagers have opposed the plans because of fears about traffic accessing the sight and a potential impact on the local landscape.
District councillor James Abbott has suggested a scoping request to Braintree Council, lodged this month, was inconsiderate because the county’s Replacement Local Minerals will not be finalised until next month.
Mr Brice said: “The issues the councillor is worrying about will come out in the planning application, which will happen in due course.
“Lorry movements and landscaping will all come out in the planning process.”
