Braintree: Charity car wash for John Ray Infant School
6:49pm Saturday 21st September 2013 in News
Firemen spent the day hosing down cars to raise money to help pupils, following a blaze that destroyed their school.
The crew based at Braintree Fire Station in Railway Street held the charity car wash on Saturday between 10am and 4pm in aid of John Ray Infant School and the Fire Fighters Charity.
The Notley Road School was devastated after a blaze tore through the buildings on August 31.
The pupils, most of whom started the autumn term last week, have been temporarily relocated to the site of the former Takeley Primary School near Bishop Stortford.
Station officer Steve Wintrip, who helped to organise event, led the crew who were first on the scene at the fire.
He said: "There has been a steady flow of cars all day and a lot of support.
"We have had a few parents and quite a lot of teachers showing their support.
"A lot of the lads had children which went to the school."
