Witham: Farmer criticised for submitting quarry plan
9:00am Friday 20th September 2013 in News
A farmer has been accused of jumping the gun by submitting plans for an 85-acre gravel quarry.
Simon Brice, of R A Brice and Sons, has applied to extract sand and gravel at Colemans Farm, between Little Braxted and Rivenhall End.
But district councillor James Abbott believes the application is premature because the county’s Replacement Local Minerals Plan has yet to be finalised.
The plan, which was approved by Essex County Council (ECC) last month, will enter a public examination phase in October or November.
Under the current plan, which lists quarry sites up until the year 2029, 60 per cent of the county’s gravel extraction will take place in and around Braintree district.
