Braintree: Couple see the funny side after grenade scare
9:00am Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
A couple have seen the funny side after a grenade scare led to the bomb squad turning up and their neighbourhood being cordoned off.
Telecommunications engineer Stuart Bateman had just arrived home from his nightshift when he spotted what appeared to be a hand grenade on his driveway in Drake Gardens, Braintree.
It was 5.30am and he woke up his wife Angie, who suggested they let the police know just to be on the safe side.
Within minutes, officers were on the scene and had put up a cordon.
At about 7.25am, the bomb squad turned up.
