Witham: Ministerial approval for school's academy launch
9:00am Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
A successful school’s re-launch as an academy has won a seal of approval from a Government minister.
Powers Hall Junior School, in Spa Road, Witham, has started its first term in its new status as Powers Hall Academy.
It has become the first primary school in Witham to take on academy status.
Headteacher Jane Bass announced the change in July, which will give her greater control over the curriculum.
Education secretary Michael Gove has written to MP Priti Patel to pass on his congratulations.
Mr Gove said: “The school’s newly acquired academy status is testament to their hard work and dedication.
“I am very pleased to read that Mrs Bass and her team are helping to drive up standards in a nearby underperforming school, meaning that more pupils will benefit from their experience and leadership.”
