Witham: Fundraiser to climb Britain's tallest mountains
12:00pm Friday 13th September 2013 in News
A fundraiser will attempt to climb three of Britain’s tallest mountains in the space of 24 hours.
Jonathan Collard, 32, of Pennyroyal Crescent, Witham, will be setting up camp at the foot of Ben Nevis, in Scotland, today, before beginning his climb at midday tomorrow.
After completing the 4,409ft climb, he will be taken by coach to England’s tallest mountain, Scafell Pike.
Finally he will move to Wales to scale Mount Snowdon, a challenge he hopes to complete within a day of setting off from Ben Nevis.
Jonathan, who works at Sports Direct in Chelmsford, will be raising money for Essex Air Ambulance.
He said: “As a young boy and man I saw many road traffic accidents and mountain bike accidents whilst out and about and on many occasions the air ambulance has been there to ensure that the patient was swiftly taken to hospital for life saving treatment.
“Once I’ve completed the challenge I'm taking the train back to Witham and a welcoming bed and well deserved rest.”
