Witham: Expanding family business set to create jobs
3:00pm Monday 16th September 2013 in News
Jobs are set to be created as a family business expands its operations in Witham.
The Hayman family first began distilling gin in 1863 when current managing director James Hayman’s great-great grandfather, James Burrough, bought a distillery in Lambeth, London.
Hayman Distillers, as the firm is now known, is run by the fifth generation of the family, with siblings James and Miranda Hayman both directors and their father Christopher Hayman chairman.
The company’s offices and warehouse, where the gin is blended and bottled, have been based on Witham’s Eastways Industrial Estate since the early 1980s.
But now, 150 years after the family’s association with the spirit first began, distillation will also take place in the town, with a dedicated distillery set to be formally unveiled early next month.
It is not yet known exactly how many jobs will be created.
