Witham: Brave Katie just keeps on fighting

An inspirational young woman is continuing her courageous battle against an incurable condition that doctors feared would kill her before she even reached five-years-old.
Experts made the harrowing prediction after Katie Newell, of Powers Hall End, Witham, was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis (NF) when she was just 15 months old.
Now 21, she has already defied the odds and undergone about ten operations to keep the condition, which causes benign tumours affecting the nervous system, at bay.
The latest was carried out at St Thomas' Hospital in central London last Thursday to remove as much as possible from tumours on both her face and left arm.
