Witham: Damage caused by would-be thieves adds to church's woes
3:00pm Friday 6th September 2013 in News
Mindless thieves are putting the financial stability of a Witham church under threat, according to a frustrated churchwarden.
Mike Robinson, who has been involved with St Nicolas Church in various capacities since the mid 1970s, claims it is already running at a deficit of about £10,000 a year, with a similar figure expected again this year.
And Mr Robinson, 65, says damage such as that caused by would-be thieves who unsuccessfully attempted to steal lead from a roof above the Chipping Hill church’s boiler house is far from helping matters.
