Witham: Bride soldiers on after pothole fall threatens to curtail wedding plans
3:00pm Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
A bride-to-be is determined to tie the knot despite being confined to crutches after falling into a pothole just weeks before her big day.
Jemma Setterington feared her wedding plans would be left in tatters when doctors said she would be unable to walk freely for up to three months after the trip into the two-inch-deep crater in the pavement.
It happened outside her flat in Bure Drive, Witham, as she was going to pick up a Chinese for her and fiance of four years, Chris Doe, 25.
An X-ray confirmed her ankle, which had swollen to the size of a tennis ball, was not broken, but the former Rickstones pupil, 24, was forced to return to hospital again last Thursday after the pain continued.
It was then, and with just a week until the wedding, she was told just how severe the sprain was and that she’d torn ligaments in her ankle, foot and lower leg.
Tomorrow's wedding at Braintree Registry Office and reception at Spring Lodge Community Centre in Witham are still going ahead, but Jemma has already had to sacrifice some plans.
