Witham: MP remains silent over Syria vote snub
3:00pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
Witham MP Priti Patel has refused to explain or justify her decision to miss the crucial Syria vote.
Ms Patel was among 33 Conservatives who failed to turn up for last Thursday’s vote on potential military action after Prime Minister David Cameron recalled MPs to Parliament.
The Government lost the ballot by 13 votes.
Her office claimed Ms Patel had “other commitments” and was “unable to get to Westminster”.
Despite requests, Ms Patel has refused to elaborate. However, she did release a statement addressing her views on Syria in which she seemingly condemned the idea of any potential military action, describing it as a “relief” that none would be taken.
