Braintree: Head points to school's safety record after failed compensation claim
9:00am Friday 30th August 2013 in News
A headteacher has pointed to his school’s exemplary safety record after a pupil’s family failed to claim compensation for a classroom accident.
Earlier this month it was revealed Essex County Council (ECC) has paid out £75,000 in the past three years after injuries on school premises.
In total, 79 claims were lodged in Essex, of which 14 resulted in a pay-out.
Unsuccessful claims included an incident at Alec Hunter Academy, in Stubbs Lane, Braintree, where a pupil was injured when their clothes caught fire in a science lesson.
Headteacher Trevor Lawn said: “The fact that no compensation payout was made is, I would say, a conclusive indication that there was no fault on the part of the teacher or the school."
