A pilot scheme has been launched with the aim of helping 600 victims of domestic abuse.
News of the scheme coincides with two reviews into the murders of two-year-old Shania and her mum Christine Chambers in Braintree in 2011, which revealed failings in the way domestic abuse is dealt with.
As part of the scheme, two experienced support staff will be helping victims in the Braintree district and Basildon.
The county council, Police and Crime Commissioner, Basildon and Braintree District Council are funding the two support staff, who will work closely with Essex Police’s domestic abuse Central Referral Unit which is the focal point for dealing with all domestic abuse incidents in the county.
