Witham: Maltings Academy celebrates best ever GCSE results
9:00am Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
Pupils in Witham are celebrating another year of record-breaking GCSEs.
For the third year in a row, Maltings Academy is celebrating an increase in its pass rate.
Some 56 per cent of pupils at the Spinks Lane school achieved five A* to C grades, including English and maths - up five per cent from last year and 14 per cent on the year before that.
Principal John Szynal said: “We are delighted with these results, particularly against a backdrop of exam bodies altering the grade boundaries in order to make it harder for students to achieve the best results.
“I am so very pleased, not only for the students, but for the staff at Maltings and the community of Witham as a whole.
“This achievement, following on from our A-level success last week, shows how hard Maltings staff and students are working to make this an outstanding institution for the future.
“However, we will not rest on our laurels and will expect even better results next year.”
Top achievers this year included Lily Carabott, who got one A* and nine A grades, Anna Crick, who achieved two A* grades and seven A grades, Alden Groves, who got one A* and five A grades, and Wasim Sumum, who achieved ten A grades.
