Braintree: Travellers move on from town sites
6:00pm Tuesday 20th August 2013 in News
A group of travellers are believed to have left Braintree after occupying a series of sites in the past week.
In last week’s Times it was reported a group of ten caravans and other vehicles had pitched up on the disused Towerlands site in Panfield Lane.
But the travellers have since moved onto two other sites in the town.
Last Tuesday they moved from Towerlands and onto the Sporting 77 football ground, on Deanery Hill, Bocking.
Braintree Council, which owns the playing field, contacted the police to ensure the group moved on.
A council spokesman said: “They were at Towerlands but they then moved onto the Sporting 77 field which is a piece of our land.
“We and the police issued them with a section 61, which required them to vacate by 10am on Thursday, which they did.”
After leaving the playing field, the travellers moved onto privately-owned land at Straits Mill, in Convent Lane.
A Braintree Council street warden visited the site on Friday and confirmed they had moved on.
