Burglaries in the Braintree district have rocketed by almost 60 per cent, according to alarming figures from police.
Statistics released to the Times ahead of today’s Braintree public meeting with Essex’s police and crime commissioner, Nick Alston, show the number of house burglaries between July 2012 and June 2013 spiralled by 59.4 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier.
There were some 165 more burglary offences recorded, although monthly figures showed an encouraging decline since the turn of the year.
Police visibility and response times, and domestic abuse are also at the top of the agenda for the meeting, which takes place at Braintree Council chamber at Causeway House in Bocking End from 4pm until 6pm.
