A retired postal worker is taking on a 140-mile cycling challenge in memory of his father.

Andy Harvey, 58, of Hedingham Road, Halstead, will ride from Guildford to Weymouth this month to raise funds for Christian Aid.

He said: "I am doing this ride in memory of my dad who was the local Christian Aid organiser for this area for over 40 years.

“This charity aims to reduce poverty in some of the poorest parts of the world and every small donation makes a fantastic difference".

Andy has retired as manager of the delivery office in Lakes Road, Braintree, after more than 30 years working for Royal Mail.

He is aiming to raise £1,000 by taking part in the cycle, which takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
