The family of a man who is trialling a potential new cancer treatment are raising money so others can also benefit from the research.

Brothers Jason and Aaron Hayden hope others will benefit from the clinical testing their dad Ron is currently undergoing for Non-Hodgkins lymphoma cancer, which is going very well.

The new Hatfield Peverel sports pavilion is to be named after retired architect Ron, 70, who volunteered two years of his time to design changing rooms and a clubhouse for the club’s new home at the the Keith Bigden Memorial Ground, in Wickham Bishops Road.

Aaron said: “We couldn’t have done it without him it will be brilliant to see his name up there.”

The club has also been backing Jason, 44, of Ridings Avenue, Great Notley, has raised more than £3,700 towards his target of £5,000 for Lymphoma Association and The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust Charitable Fund, where his dad is being treated.

He has already completed the Tamdown Triathlon and the 100km Peterbrough Cycle Ride and on May 5 will begin the London to Paris bike ride among other events.

The senior estimator at Braintree’s Tamdown Group said: “The clinical treatment costs about £100,000 and some of the tablets cost £2,000 each, I know I am never going to be able to raise £100,000 and I can’t help medically as you have to leave all that to them so you feel helpless.

“He has been lucky to get on this trial, I think there are only four people for this particular hospital and not many in the UK.

“If I can help raise money into this treatment I can then help others.”
