Shoppers are invited to a special event to raise money to remember a much-loved grandfather who died from skin cancer.

Ian Baines, 39, is running the London Marathon next month in memory of his father-in-law Ray Fairless, who died last year aged 82.

Braintree resident Ray was an active member of the community, a founder member of Braintree Lions and a regular table-tennis player in the Braintree League.

Ian, who is married to Ray’s daughter Amanda, is raising money for Farleigh Hospice, who provided care for Ray in his final weeks.

A fundraising shopping event is taking place on Saturday, from 11am to 1pm, at Barnston Village Hall, in Chelmsford Road.

There will be 15 stalls selling gifts such as beauty products, chocolate, toys, cards and more.

Entry is £1, which includes a free raffle ticket. To donate to the cause, visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com and search for Ian Baines.
