Witham: I'm being victimised by vandals, says letting agent Witham: I'm being victimised by vandals, says letting agent

An angry letting agent fears she is being targeted after vandals attacked her business for the second time in a year and a half.

Rebecca Popham, 32, arrived at work at Lettings Solutions in Guithavon Street, Witham, on Saturday morning to discover that the firm’s phone line and internet connection were down.

It was not initially known what the cause of the fault was, but when engineers arrived on Monday they confirmed that the line had been deliberately cut.

It is not the first time the business has been affected by vandalism.

In August 2011, a brick was thrown through a window, causing £600 damage, and in 2010 Miss Popham was forced to install CCTV after yobs continually smashed up the former Crown pub next door, which was derelict at the time.

Yes, it is unfortunate that this business, along with pretty much every other business in the country, has suffered some vandalism, but two incidents, with completely different types of damage, 18 months apart, does not look like victimisation.

The rock through the window was probably a random attack by drunks. As she had installed CCTV the previous year, it should have been recorded.

Cutting the phone wires does look a bit more thought out, possibly preplanned, but doesn't amount to victimisation.
