Witham: Company praised for use of apprentices Witham: Company praised for use of apprentices

A company with an impressive track record of hiring apprentices has been praised by a politician.

Seven per cent of staff at freight and logistics firm Simarco, which has its head office in Crittall Road, Witham, were originally taken on as apprentices.

Witham MP Priti Patel visited the business to mark the start of National Apprenticeship Week 2013.

Ms Patel said: “Simarco are an outstanding business who are world leaders in international freight and logistics support services.

“They provide many local jobs and I am pleased that they are offering employment, training and development opportunities to apprentices.

“We should be proud of their contribution to our local economy.”

Simarco developed its apprenticeship scheme in partnership with Colchester Institute’s Witham campus.

Its longest-serving former apprentice has been with the company a decade and now manages imports and exports on behalf of international clients.

Carol Wheatley, Simarco human resources manager, said: “Almost all those apprentices who we have taken on have been offered permanent jobs with us at the end of their training.

“As their careers have developed, so too has our business.”
