A lorry driver who died in a crash had been due to marry his “soulmate” when he retired on his next birthday.

Michael Stoodley, 64, of Rosemary Avenue, Braintree, died when he crashed into the back of a stationary lorry.

He was declared dead at the scene of the crash, which took place on the A130 near Rettendon at 11.15am last Tuesday.

Mr Stoodley, who was a keen motorcyclist, first met his fiancee Carol Stevenson eight years ago when he helped repair her bike.

The couple got engaged at Christmas and had been due to marry after Mr Stoodley reached his 65th birthday later this year.
