Drivers are being warned to take care following reports of large potholes in the middle lane of the A12.

The problem has been reported on the northbound carriageway between junctions 21 and 22 in Witham.

The Highways Agency confirmed contractors would be attending the scene as soon as possible to assess the situation

A spokesman said: "If they are safety-critical potholes, they have to be dealt with within 24 hours."

not sure what a road sign that's been shot with a shotgun has to do with this story

The photograph does not look much like a pothole to me. Unless motorists were swerving to avoid a damaged roadsign as well as a pothole.
