Witham: Consultants get to work on how to improve town centre

Newland Street, Witham Newland Street, Witham

Consultants are starting work on finding out how to improve Witham town centre.

Braintree Council has appointed GVA to look at ideas, including boosting the Saturday market.

It will work with organisations including the town council and Witham Town Centre Development Community Interest Company on an action plan for Witham, which is due to be completed in June.

It follows on from the Talk of the Towns survey in 2011, when Braintree Council asked Witham residents what they liked about the town and what they wanted to see improved.

What Witham needs is a large supermarket. This will mean that local residents don't go to Chelmsford, Colchester or Maldon to shop. Then they will use the town shops for things that you don't get in Supermarkets.

Coincidentally, that's exactly what Morrisons wanted to do.

Decent shops like M&S,Next and maybe a George clothing store. Also less bookies .Doesn't take a genius consultant to work it out.Agree with above Morrison's comment too.Maybe Sainsburys also taking BDC to court aswell as Morrison's may give Morrison's their wish

Hi I Still maintain that small towns such as Witham , sorely miss Woolworths . There is nowhere where you are able to buy a toy for a childs birthday party or a bit of school uniform etc etc , forcing people to Chelsmsford. The 99p shop is a false economy and lets have a Wilkinsons/Woolies/l
arger supermarket please and limit the number of bookmakes & charity shops ! Perhaps if BDC offered a rental incentive to any new start ups and reduced the parking rates for longer throughout the day plus 50p to park on a Sunday is a complete mickey take !

Yes I do think it is a mickey take to pay for parking , albeit a small amount of money , when very few shops are open , one of the few being Iceland , so would like to park near there to carry my shopping ! There used to be the option to park in the market on Sunday but that has now been removed too !

Why use expensive consultants
Surely Braintree District Council has enough competent staff?
Consult with the residents that would be a novel idea for Braintree District Council

Don't be silly. Is that not common sense. Oh I forgot common sense wouldn't enable consultants to claim their fees.
