A consortium hoping to build thousands of homes on the outskirts of Braintree has been accused of scaremongering.

Bradwell parish councillor Debbie Tyrie, chairman of the authority’s A120 committee, claimed there was more chance of Disneyland coming to Braintree than plans for 3,500 homes on the edge of town.

Gateway 120, a group of landowners, also wants to build a 7,500-home village next to Marks Tey and has offered to put £128million towards turning a nine-mile stretch of the A120 into a dual carriageway.

Hugh Crayston, director of Gateway 120, said: “Far from ‘scaremongering’, this is a promising plan that will benefit our local area with jobs, homes and fresh infrastructure.”

No one will listen to me or maybe people are really just not that bothered, Braintree will soon become another Harlow / Basildon, it will be built on and built on, unfortunately the people we are attracting are people of low incomes, we are building affordable housing which in turn effect the price of YOUR property!
Braintree WAS lovely village not effected by the problems of the larger towns, now we have the problems and the people to go with it!
Please leave Braintree alone, as I have said time and time again, there is nothing wrong with the A120, the problem is the amount of people we have encouraged to use it!
CONCRETE BRAINTREE, HERE WE COME!

Dear oh lor' -- the same ol' scare mongering we've heard for ever. Do try and keep up: we're in the 21st century now, m'dear -- not the late nineteenth!

And, anyway, when the hell was Braintree a village? Certainly not in the past fifty-odd years I've been around!

Daft bugger.

Thank you for the compliment, I care for the area I live in and want children to grow up in an area consisting of open spaces, fresh air, low crime and a feeling of security and friendship - if you don't want that, then that's fine with me.
I realise there are a shortage of houses, but lets build for the people of Braintree first, unfortunately we keep building for East Londoners! And before anyone asks, no I have not got anything against E Londoners, I just think we should help needy Braintree people first.
